Re: [VOTE] Release Apache ServiceMix 5.0.0

Cristiano Costantini
Hi all,
I've tested SMX 5 on my full-stack demo,
https://github.com/cristcost/sensormix/ and apart of two issues related to
karaf shell command and camel-xslt it all worked.
I've also appreciated that two issues related to conflicts of old version
of bundles are now solved.

I'll do more tests, I'll also update
https://github.com/cristcost/sensormix/to smx 5 (updating version of
camel, spring, cxf etc.), I'll investigate
the camel-xslt and karaf issues and I'll give more feedback. Also next week
I'll try deploy the app we develop at work to smx 5.
But as the vote started 2 days ago, I'm giving my

+1

to the release.

Cristiano

+1 (binding)

I noticed some bundles that need to be aligned and features should be
refactored/cleaned up, but nothing major.
I will work on this next week.

Re: [VOTE] Release Apache ServiceMix 5.0.0

Raúl Kripalani
In reply to this post by Gert Vanthienen
Hello,

I did a clean build and started the resulting instance. Unfortunately I
came across this message while starting up:

Please wait while Apache ServiceMix is starting...
Ignoring
/Users/raul/Workbench/apache-servicemix-5.0.0/system/org/apache/karaf/deployer/org.apache.karaf.deployer.wrap/2.3.4/org.apache.karaf.deployer.wrap-2.3.4.jar
(run level must be an integer)

The root cause is that the concatenation of startup.properties from the
Karaf distro with our OBR variant leads to this result:

org/apache/karaf/deployer/org.apache.karaf.deployer.wrap/2.3.4/org.apache.karaf.deployer.wrap-2.3.4.jar=30#
#    Licensed to the Apache Software Foundation (ASF) under one or more
#    contributor license agreements.  See the NOTICE file distributed with

Notice the trailing comment pound. Could be due to any or many of several
reasons: Karaf 2.3.4 has removed the trailing at the end of their
startup.properties file or license header was added recently; newlines are
not handled properly after we merged the Windows + Unix distros; etc.

It definitely must be a platform-specific issue, given that the rest of you
haven't come across it... Did you guys build from scratch? Or did you use
RC binaries to test?

I cannot effectively -1 this candidate since I'm not a committer, but as a
user I would expect SMX5 to provide a seamless and flawless experience. My
2 cent.

P.S.: Working on a patch.

Hi Raul,

Yeah, that looks like something I messed up on Friday when I added the
license headers that were missing from some of the files.  We
concatenate a separate file with the OBR stuff to the existing
startup.properties file - looks like on your platform at least,
there's a problem with the line endings when doing that.  Perhaps
adding a newline to the beginning of the file we append (with the OBR
stuff) is enough to fix this?

Good catch - I agree with you: let's fix this and cut a new release candidate.

Gert Vanthienen

Hello Gert,

Find attached the patch; rather than adding the newline in the second file, I updated the ant definition.

Hope it's good. License granted to ASF.

Hi Raul,

Could you attach that patch to
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SM-2268 or something like that?
Sending to the mailing list removes attachments by default.

Thanks,

Gert Vanthienen

Re: [VOTE] Release Apache ServiceMix 5.0.0

Jean-Baptiste Onofré
In reply to this post by Raúl Kripalani
Good catch Raul,

I agree, I revert my vote to -1.

As Gert will probably cancel the release, I will include some
patches/cleanup.

Regards
JB

Re: [VOTE] Release Apache ServiceMix 5.0.0

Hi Jean-Baptiste,

I sent out the cancelation notice last evening.  Did you have any
specific changes in mind you wanted to get in?  I just removed the tag
and updated the release notes, so as far as I'm concerned, I'm ready
to start a new release build whenever we think we're ready for it.

Regards,

Gert Vanthienen
